intelligent and sustainable design

Our materials ethos is: Something new from something old. Something memorable from something forgotten.

That’s why our artisans carve, twist and cut every piece by hand using only locally-sourced natural and recycled materials.

And while our products occasionally include animal-based materials, we only allow reclaimed elements that would have otherwise been wasted.

We hope our ethical and personal approach adds style to your home while lifting your soul.

SOAP STONE

Kisii communities have been carving soapstone – a type of metamorphic rock – for generations. The Kenyan strain of soapstone, found only in Kisii, is unique for its softness and range of colours.

Soapstone occurs in many beautiful natural hues from light cream to black, yellows, pinks, lavender and grey. Individual colors emerge from a distinct fusion of minerals embedded in each rock.

RECYCLED BRASS

Brass sheet and handmade circle link chain are carefully recycled from discarded padlocks and other unused items through skilful casting and hammering.

Recycled brass is textured with impurities and mixed ratios of diverse metals. We love this and use it to our advantage.

HORN & BONE

The cow horn and bone used in our art is a left over by-product of local agricultural industries. We collect it and repurpose it rather than see it go to waste.

The horn and bone material comes from the stunning cattle breed, Ankole. These impressive, rusty-red coated animals are famous for their extraordinary horns that can grow up to 8 feet in length - longer than any other cattle species in the world.
